You have the product and the capacity. Why don't overseas buyers find you?

Importers, distributors and engineering buyers do their own research before they contact a supplier. They search for the product and the spec, compare supplier websites, and check certifications and lead times. If you are absent from that round, you are absent from the shortlist. We help factories get found, get trusted and get asked for a quote, one piece at a time.

Best for
Factories and B2B exporters in machinery, CNC machining, packaging, components, pumps and tanks, and OEM/ODM who have capacity and want more overseas RFQs and sample orders
Usual channels
Google Search ads, SEO and GEO, an English website, localization, tracking, and enquiry follow-up
What usually changes first
First RFQs and real search terms from Search ads, plus a clear view of which channel each enquiry came from; organic search grows more slowly and needs steady work

Signs your overseas pipeline is stuck

These six patterns are common at Chinese factories and B2B exporters, and they rarely come alone.

  • Nearly every enquiry comes from a B2B marketplace or a trade show, and it opens with price

A marketplace buyer is usually messaging a dozen factories at once, and the first question is the lowest price. Trade shows put you in front of real people, but only a few times a year, and leads cool quickly once the show ends. Neither channel is the problem. The problem is that they are your only sources, and outside them you barely exist.

  • Search the product, the spec and “manufacturer” in English, and you are not on the first pages

Engineering buyers rarely search a company name. They type phrases like “stainless steel centrifugal pump manufacturer” or “5 axis CNC machining supplier”, with the material, the process or the spec in the query. If your website has one generic product list, those searches land on competitors or on marketplace pages instead.

  • The website has a spec table, but not what a buyer needs to request a quote

Visitors can see dimensions and materials, but not MOQ, sample time, production lead time, what can be customized, how parts are inspected or which markets you already ship to. Certifications appear as a logo with no certificate number or issuing body. Buyers can now look up accredited certificates such as ISO 9001 by company name in public databases like IAF CertSearch 5, so a logo alone can make a careful buyer more suspicious, not less.

  • Enquiries arrive, and the reply comes the next day

An RFQ sent on a US afternoon lands in the middle of the night in China. By the time your sales team replies, the buyer may already have two other quotes. Research published in Harvard Business Review found that most companies do not respond to online leads nearly fast enough 11. Across time zones, the gap gets wider.

  • Plenty of enquiries, very few you can actually quote

The form fills up with students, competitors, people selling SEO, catalogue collectors and buyers with obviously fake details. Sales staff spend hours sorting, and the real buyers wait. In most cases the cause is ad keywords set too broad, pages that never say which customers you serve, and a form that does not ask for the information a quote needs.

  • When buyers ask an AI tool for suppliers, you are not on the list

In a Gartner survey of nearly 650 B2B buyers conducted in August and September 2025, 45% said they used AI during a recent purchase 2. ChatGPT's web search answers with citations to the sources it used 7. If there is no clear, citable information about your factory online, it is hard for you to appear in the supplier lists these tools assemble.

How overseas B2B buyers actually find suppliers

Many factory owners still picture a world where customers come asking, or where a handshake at a trade show is enough. In practice, overseas buyers increasingly research on their own first and decide later whom to contact. A Gartner sales survey published in 2025 found that 61% of B2B buyers prefer an overall rep-free buying experience, and that most buyers prefer to carry out independent research through digital channels 1. A similar Gartner survey published in 2026 put the figure at 67% 2. Both surveys cover B2B buyers across industries rather than manufacturing alone, but they point the same way: your first meeting with a buyer often happens when they search and read your website.

Research alone first, ask a supplier for the judgment calls

The same Gartner release notes that buyers prefer self-service when they look for general information and learn new things, but prefer seller input for tasks that need context, such as deciding whether a product fits their company's needs 1. For a factory this means two things. Product, spec, certification and capacity information has to be findable and readable online. And when a buyer arrives with a drawing or a specific question, someone who understands the engineering has to answer quickly and accurately.

One more detail matters: 69% of B2B buyers report inconsistencies between the information on a seller's website and what its salespeople tell them 1. If the website says 15 days lead time and the sales rep quotes 35, or the site claims IP68 and the sample does not meet it, trust breaks at exactly that point. Keeping the website, the ads and the sales team saying the same thing is part of winning customers, not an afterthought.

Why marketplaces and trade shows alone are not enough

A B2B marketplace exists to put similar suppliers side by side, so buyers naturally sort by price and response speed. Trade shows build trust but happen rarely, cost a lot, and depend on individual follow-up afterwards. More importantly, many buyers have already searched Google before they open a marketplace or book a flight to a fair, and the factories they found in that search form the shortlist in their heads. Gartner also reports that 73% of B2B buyers actively avoid suppliers who send irrelevant outreach 1. Mass cold email to find customers tends to work less well than being found by buyers who are already searching.

Google is explicit about organic search too. Content should be created primarily for people rather than to manipulate rankings, and within E-E-A-T (experience, expertise, authoritativeness and trust), trust is the most important part 4. For a factory, trust comes from concrete things: real photos of the workshop and equipment, certificates a buyer can verify, the markets you actually export to, and a clear inspection process. Likewise, Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode have no extra requirements or special optimizations; a page needs to be indexed and eligible to show with a snippet in Search 6. Getting the fundamentals right matters more than chasing new labels.

How we approach it

We follow Clickto's six steps: discovery, market validation, strategy, build and launch, acquisition, and measurement. Here is what each step looks like for a factory that wants overseas buyers.

  1. 01

Discovery: what you do best and which customers you want

We start with your core products, process capabilities, capacity, MOQ, lead times, certifications and current export markets, and which orders carry the best margin. We also ask which customers you do not want, such as single-unit retail buyers or orders beyond your capacity. Everything after this, from keywords to pages to ads, follows from these answers.

OutputA one-page profile of your capabilities and target buyers, with the product lines and markets to push first

  2. 02

Market validation: what buyers type and who you compete with

We map the English search terms buyers in your target markets use, usually product plus material, spec or process plus “manufacturer”, “supplier” or “factory”, along with buying-intent words such as OEM, custom and wholesale. Then we look at which factories and platforms rank for those terms and what information their pages give buyers.

OutputA keyword list grouped by buying intent, and a side-by-side review of the competing pages that rank

  3. 03

    Build RFQ-ready English pages

Each main product line gets its own English page: applications, key specs in both metric and imperial units, customization options, MOQ, sample and production lead times, inspection method, certificate numbers and issuing bodies, export markets, and real workshop photos. The RFQ form asks for quantity, material, drawing upload and target delivery date, and states how quickly you reply. Multi-language or multi-region pages follow Google's guidance on clear URL structures and hreflang annotations 8.

OutputProduct landing pages ready for ads and organic search, plus an RFQ form that captures what a quote needs

  4. 04

Use Google Search ads to reach buyers who are looking right now

Search ads appear only when someone searches a related term, which makes them a good fit for buyers already looking for a supplier. We start with phrase and exact match to keep traffic tight 3 and keep adding negative keywords to filter out searches like DIY, used or jobs. Location targeting is set to people physically in or regularly in the target area rather than people merely interested in it 9. Where it helps, ad schedules follow the buyer's working hours 10.

OutputSearch campaigns split by product line, a negative keyword list, and a regular review of the real search terms, summarized in the monthly report

  5. 05

SEO and GEO: get found in organic search and AI answers too

Ads work fast but stop when spending stops. In parallel we publish content around real buying questions: material comparisons, tolerance and process explanations, selection guides, certification explainers and application examples. It follows Google's guidance on people-first, trustworthy content 4. For AI search we make sure pages are indexed and eligible for snippets 6, and that the site does not block OAI-SearchBot, which ChatGPT's web search relies on 7.

OutputA technical SEO check with fixes, a monthly content plan, and regular checks of how your brand appears in AI search

  6. 06

Follow-up and measurement: count enquiries by channel, and judge their quality

A reply process that works across time zones has four parts: an automatic acknowledgement, a clear rule for checking new enquiries (we recommend your company decides who checks and at which hours), standard answers to common questions, and quote templates. Conversion tracking in Google Ads and on the website records form, phone and email enquiries 12, and each enquiry is then graded against one shared standard, ideally by the salesperson who handled it. A monthly report shows which channels and search terms brought buyers you could actually quote.

OutputAn enquiry reply process, conversion tracking, an enquiry quality log, and a monthly channel report

How this differs from the usual approach

Most factories have tried some promotion. The trouble is that it often does not match how overseas buyers look for suppliers.

TopicThe usual approachHow Clickto does it
Where buyers come fromMostly a B2B marketplace plus a few trade shows a year, with almost no presence elsewhereKeep the marketplace and the shows, and add your own entry points in Google and AI search so buyers see you before the price comparison starts
KeywordsThe company name or broad product words, so spend leaks to retail shoppers and unrelated searchesBuying-intent terms such as product plus spec plus manufacturer or supplier, with phrase and exact match and a growing negative list 3
Product pagesPhotos and a spec table, certification logos only, no MOQ or lead timeWritten for a purchase decision: applications, specs, customization, MOQ, lead time, inspection, and certificate details a buyer can verify 5
OutreachMass cold email and social DMs, lots of sends and few repliesBe found by buyers already searching; keep any outreach narrow and relevant, since most B2B buyers avoid suppliers who send irrelevant messages 1
Follow-upReplies only during Chinese office hours, so buyers wait a full dayAn automatic acknowledgement, a checking rule your company agrees on, and prepared answers and quote templates to shorten the first reply 11
MeasurementClicks and total enquiry count, with no view of which enquiries matterEnquiries tracked by channel and search term 12, graded against one shared standard, and counted by stage: quotable, sample sent, ordered

The exact scope follows from the free diagnosis. This service does not replace your sales team in quoting and negotiating, and it does not cover trade show booths or day-to-day marketplace store management. We do not promise specific rankings, enquiry counts or orders, because those depend on your product, the competition, and your pricing and delivery. What we commit to is a clear method, transparent data, and a monthly account of which work is bringing customers.

Questions

We have been on a B2B marketplace for years. Do we still need Google?

Keep the marketplace; it is still a real source of enquiries. The difference is that a marketplace lists you next to similar factories, while a buyer who clicks through to your website from Google sees only you. Many overseas buyers search Google before they open a marketplace, so another entry point means another chance to be seen before the price comparison begins. A sensible default is to run both and set the balance only after comparing enquiry quality by channel.

Industrial search volumes are tiny. Are Google Search ads worth it?

Industrial keywords often do have low volume, but the people searching them tend to be buyers or engineers with a defined need, and one good enquiry can become a long-term account. We start with a small set of high-intent terms, review the real search terms and enquiry quality, and only then decide whether to expand. If demand for a market or product line turns out too thin, we will tell you plainly.

Should we show prices on the website?

Factory products usually do not need public prices, since price depends on quantity, material and customization. The site should, however, state MOQ, sample and production lead times, what can be customized, and what information you need to quote. Buyers can then judge fit on their own and arrive with a fuller request, which makes quoting faster.

Our sales team's English is limited. How do we handle enquiries?

Pages and ads are written and localized in the phrasing buyers in your target market expect, with units, trade terms and tone adjusted to local habits. For replies, you can prepare standard English answers to common questions, quote templates and an automatic acknowledgement, and your team fills in the specifics. Technical questions still need someone who knows the product; Gartner's research shows buyers want supplier input when judging whether a product fits their needs 1. Tools can help with language, but the engineering judgment cannot be skipped.

Once Search ads go live, how long until the first RFQs arrive?

Once Search ads are live, with real search demand for the keywords and working pages and forms, visits and first enquiries usually come fairly quickly, though timing depends on the product, the market and the competition. SEO and AI search build over months of steady content and page work. We do not promise a number of enquiries, but every month we show what each channel brought in and what to change next.

Do we really need to show certificate numbers?

We recommend it. Serious buyers check supplier credentials, and accredited certificates such as ISO 9001 can be looked up by company name in public databases like IAF CertSearch 5. Showing the certificate number, the issuing body and the scope builds more trust than a logo. If a certificate covers only some products or one site, say so, so nothing contradicts it later in the conversation.

What account access does the free diagnosis need, and what does a full engagement need?

The free diagnosis needs no account access; it uses only public information such as your website, English search results and visible ads. A full engagement needs access to your Google Ads account and website backend to set up Search ads and enquiry tracking. We recommend registering the Google Ads account, the domain and the analytics account in your company's name, with your company holding the admin role, so the enquiry data and ad history stay with you whoever you work with later.
